Manitobans got active during Environment Week to come out on top of the 2015 Commuter Challenge.
The annual, friendly competition saw Winnipeg, Souris and Thompson claim their popular categories. Citizens were encouraged to carpool, use public transit, canoe, cycle, walk or run for their daily commute.
“We hope that folks will carry forward these healthy commuting options into their lives throughout the year,” said Jaret Olford, Commuter Challenge coordinator. “Manitoba once again came out on top, and we are thrilled to see Souris, Manitoba, taking the title for the first time in their population category”
A total of 461 workplaces were registered, accounting for 7,296 employees and individuals. In all, 574,435 km were travelled, accounting for about 4.9 million calories burned.
