Thursday’s Winnipeg Goldeyes will have a Ukrainian feeling to it.
The baseball club is hosting Ukrainian Night when the Fish play the Sioux City Explorers at Shaw Park. Pre-game celebrations will include a polka dance contest on the plaza, with the Hoosli Ukrainian Male Chorus perform the national anthems. Contests and prizes will be part of the fun including a special “Go Goldeyes!” perogy-eating contest.
“Ukrainian culture is an important part of Winnipeg’s community,” Winnipeg Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier said. “It’s going to be a great night at the ballpark celebrating the colourful Ukrainian culture, while also supporting people in Ukraine through a tangible means.”
A donation of $4 from every group ticket sold will go to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress — Manitoba Provincial Council, plus $4 from the sale of specially designed “Cheer for Ukrainians” T-shirts will also go to the Congress to help purchase medical supplies for Ukraine.
Tickets are available at Ticketmaster or the Goldeyes box office.
