WINNIPEG — Visitors to Artspace with mobility issues now have access to an elevator-style wheelchair lift.

The organization provides space for Winnipeg’s arts community to flourish, repurposing a 55,000-square-foot warehouse to act as exhibit and workspace for 18 arts and cultural organizations.

“Though heritage buildings present unique accessibility challenges, these challenges are surmountable with the right combination of will and investment,” said Randy Joynt, executive director of Artspace Inc.

“The new elevator style lift is significantly more robust and user friendly than the rail style lift that has been in place for years at Artspace.”

The $140,000 project was funded through the Winnipeg Community Infrastructure Program, the Manitoba Centennial Centre Corporation and Artspace Inc.
