Children who want to be a zookeeper when they grow up can get some practice through a new contest running at Assiniboine Park Zoo.

To celebrate National Zookeeper Week (July 19-26), the zoo is holding a contest for kids ages 12 and up.

“Zookeeper Week will be fantastic and we hope our guests really enjoy having a chance to meet the amazing people that care for our animals,” said Dr. Brian Joseph, director of zoological operations at Assiniboine Park Zoo.

“This is a wonderful chance to recognize the roles that zookeepers play in animal conservation and education plus a great opportunity to inspire visitors to protect our natural resources and wildlife.”

Applicants must write a short paragraph on why they would like to be a zookeeper for a day. The authors of the five winning entries will win an exclusive experience with the zookeepers of Assiniboine Park Zoo. The deadline to enter is Monday, July 13.
