Endurance racers — and those who just want to have a fun time — are preparing for this weekend’s Spartan Race.
It’s the first time the event is being held in the province and will take place Saturday in Grunthal, Manitoba.
The 5 km+ sprint obstacle race will see competitors from all skill levels, from beginners and marathon runners to “hardcore warriors.”
Grunthal joins Vancouver, Calgary, Westlock, Red Deer and Sun Peaks as newest location for the event.
“What we want to do is get those people who are thinking, ‘Aw, man, that would be awesome to do but it looks difficult,’” said Jesse Cox, one of the organizers for the Manitoba event. “Look, your jumping through fire, crawling under barbed wire. That’s an awesome story to tell someone at the end of the day.”
Spartan Race also has a 13 km+ and a 22 km+ race, which keeps competitors coming back year after year to challenge themselves at different levels.
