A Winnipeg Transit driver is facing charges after a woman was killed after being run over by a bus in April.
Winnipeg police were called to the scene at about 9:05 a.m. on April 7 when a woman, 72, fell under the wheels of the bus. She was standing on the corner of Keewatin Street and Burrows Avenue and was intending to cross eastbound at the crosswalk.
Instead, a transit bus traveling east on Burrows Avenue turned southbound on Keewatin Street and struck her, causing her fall.
The bus driver stopped and first responders were notified.
Police continued to investigate and on July 9, the bus driver, 45, was arrested. He faces charges of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death.
