Environment Canada Launches Weather Alerts Via Tweet

July 14, 2015 10:21 AM | News

TwitterThose wise in the ways of social media can now get weather alerts for their hometown via Twitter.

Environment Canada made the announcement Tuesday, and launched hundreds of Twitter accounts for cities and towns across Canada.

“Weather alert messaging service using Twitter is based on information contained in the weather alerts issued every day by our meteorologists,” reads a statement from Environment Canada. “The automated alert messages are one-way communication. Every time an alert is issued or ended, a tweet is automatically sent out. A hashtag to report severe weather is also included in every tweet.”

Winnipeg’s Twitter weather alert account is @ECAlertMB38.
