The Assiniboine Park Zoo’s youngest felines have received their new names.

Winnipeg, meet Yuki and Kang, who were born at the zoo earlier this year.

A total of 1,119 votes were cast on the Assiniboine Park Zoo’s website poll and people were asked to pick their favourites from a list of names. Yuki, which is Japanese, and Kang, which is Tibetan, were the two most popular.

Both names mean ‘snow’ in their respective languages. The cubs were introduced to the community late last week.

“I can’t think of a better way to name the cubs than with the help of the community,” said Gary Lunsford, General Curator at Assiniboine Park Zoo. “They’re a wonderful addition to our zoo family and I know our visitors are going to love them.”
