Winnipeg’s newest millionaire says she knows what she’s doing with her winnings – fixing up her classic car.
Wendy Smith-Peden was at the cottage when she made a quick trip in to check her Lotto Max ticket. There, she discovered she had won one of the $1 million MAXMILLIONS prizes for the July 10 draw.
“I normally check numbers on my phone,” she said. “But this time, I didn’t want to go through all of the numbers for the extra draws. So, I went to the store and asked the clerk to check it.
“I’m having a really hard time believing that this is all real,” she said. “I don’t think it’s actually sunk in that I won. I just can’t believe this is happening to me.”
Smith-Peden said she knows what she’s going to do with the money.
“I’m going to start by paying some bills and do some renovations,” she said. “After all of that, I’m going to fix my 1978 MGB. It broke down, and I put off fixing it for a little while. Now I can fix it and drive it again!”
Smith-Peden picked up her winning ticket at the KVID lottery retailer inside Safeway at 3393 Portage Ave.
