Two Canadian actors have been cast as the role of Billy Elliott in the new upcoming Royal Manitoba Theatre Production.
“Billy Elliott The Musical” will star Ethan Ribeiro and Eamon Stocks, who will both share the demanding role as the lead actor.
Elliot, a young boy in a depressed working-class mining town, looks to escape his circumstances after discovering a passion for dance.
Ribeiro and Stocks will move to Winnipeg in September and receive dance training in the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s professional division program before beginning rehearsals at Royal MTC in December.
Ontario’s Carter Treneer will play Billy’s best friend Michael, while Winnipeg’s Katie Welham will take to the stage as Debbie, an outspoken girl in Billy’s ballet class.
The roles of Tall Boy, Posh Boy and Small Boy, other children in Billy’s mining community, will be played by locals Jack Mickelthwate, Demetri Apostolopoulos and Alexandre Deakin.
Single tickets for the production go on sale at 9 a.m. this morning and start at $22 at the Tom Hendry Warehouse and $26 at the John Hirsch Mainstage.
Billy Elliott will run January 12 to February 6, 2016.
