New visual additions are coming to Winnipeg’s Chinatown area as the 7th annual Chinatown Street Festival approaches.
The Winnipeg Chinese Cultural and Community Centre has partnered with the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ to add new programming components and streetscaping improvements.
“Chinatown is a downtown district rich with great history and prestige,” said Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.
“The Chinatown Street Festival is a wonderful event for downtown and a way to highlight the strength of the district — we hope Winnipeggers will come out to explore this jewel in our downtown.”
Alongside the traditional lion dances, Chinese kung fu and other activities, a night market with vendors from the Chinese community will be added this year, along with an outdoor movie screening of “Rush Hour 3” at sundown.
The Chinatown Street Festival runs August 28-30, with the night market on daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
