A new primary care clinic has opened in Swan River, where five new physicians have been recruited to work in the northwestern Manitoba community.

The Swan Valley Primary Care Centre includes 12 exam rooms, treatment rooms, support spaces and waiting areas.

Premier Greg Selinger was in Swan River on Thursday for the grand opening.

“This new clinic will be a one-stop shop for quality primary health-care services offered by physicians, nurse practitioners and other regional health-care service providers,” Selinger said.

Two physicians already staff the 6,000 square foot facility, which also co-ordinates care for people living with chronic diseases.

Selinger also announced 34 paramedics will be hired to provide care in the Prairie Mountain Health and Southern Health–Santé Sud regional health authorities.
