MTSWINNIPEG — MTS is spending $45 million to acquire wireless spectrum from WIND Mobile in an effort to increase speed along its network.

MTS will get 15 MHz of paired AWS-1 spectrum to improve the customer experience, paired with spectrum already acquired through the federal government’s auction earlier this year.

“We are appreciative of the concrete steps that the government has been taking to create more choice, lower prices and better wireless service for Canadians and their families,” said MTS Allstream CEO Jay Forbes.

WIND CEO Alek Krstajic says the sale will allow its network to expand and finish the rollout of LTE.

MTS will repay its credit facilities used for the purchase following the sale of Allstream.
