Sixty-five horses are grazing freely on a sunny pasture on the outskirts of Winnipeg ahead of their big debut in nine days.

Cavalia’s Odysseo show opens September 10 under the White Big Top at the corner of Kenaston Boulevard and Sterling Lyon Parkway.

Until then, horses of 11 different breeds are enjoying a relaxing stay at a local farm near Oakbank.

The horses are an integral part of the $30 million theatrical production, which “marries the equestrian arts, stage arts and high-tech theatrical effects at never-before-seen-levels.”

Forty-five artists will carry out performances, accompanied by stone, earth and sand components. Production also includes the building of an underground drainage system to create a “lake” on the stage and release 300,000 litres of recycled water. All of this takes place under the 38-metre tall, 6,320-square-metre tent in the south end of the city.

Tickets are currently on sale through Ticketmaster and Cavalia.net for between $49.50 and $129.50. ChrisD.ca will have several pairs of tickets to give away in the coming weeks.

Odysseo runs until October 18.
