RCMP Crest LogoManitoba RCMP are investigating the discovery of human remains off a trail in the Leaf Rapids area.

Police were called to the scene on Sunday after a group of people had located the remains.

The identity of the body hasn’t been confirmed and further forensic analysis is pending.

“While we are not in a position to confirm the identity of the remains at this time, our officers have already been in contact with those believed to be the family of the deceased,” said Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Manitoba RCMP. “We are dedicated to bring certainty and closure to the affected family.”

Foul play is not suspected, but police continue to investigate.

Leaf Rapids is located about 980 km north of Winnipeg.
