First-day enrolment at the University of Manitoba has hit a record this year.

The U of M says the first day of classes saw 29,691 students enrolled, representing half of the province’s post-secondary students.

It’s also the third consecutive year enrolment has surpassed 29,000 students on the first day of classes.

Graduate enrolment is at 3,546 students, an increase of 7.3 percent from last year.

The number of international students enrolled in the fall 2015 term reached an all-time high of 4,692 students, with undergraduate international enrolment increasing 10.8 percent and graduate international enrolment increasing 12.4 percent.

Numbers released Thursday were preliminary figures, which often change following late enrolment and after faculties submit all their data in coming months.
