A celebration to mark this year’s Provincial Hunting Day has a new home at the Winnipeg Trap and Skeet Club.

The Manitoba Wildlife Federation is sponsoring the festivities on Saturday, September 26, promoting the rich tradition of hunting that has become part of Manitoba’s heritage.

“The shotgun training and shooting component will be very exciting for participants,” said Carly Deacon, program manager with the MWF. “We will be offering shotgun training to anyone over the age of 12 who would like to try and the first 15 shots will be free of charge.”

Deacon says everyone is welcome to attend, especially those with no experience.

“We want to introduce non-hunters to all aspects of hunting, including everything from wildlife stewardship and outdoor skills to marksmanship and equipment care.”

New demonstrations this year include waterfowl cleaning and preparation led by Food Matters Manitoba.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the club just 4 km from the Perimeter on Highway 3. Danny’s Whole Hog BBQ will provide lunch starting at 11 a.m.
