The City of Winnipeg is on the hunt for the next giant Christmas tree to go up in front of City Hall.
Owners of large spruce trees on their property are being asked to contact the city if they’re interested in donating it.
While a number of potential tree candidates have come forward already, the city says none of them meet the criteria.
To be considered for the City Hall Christmas tree, a spruce tree must:
· be located in the front yard of a property with direct access to the tree
· be 12 to 15 metres tall (approximately 40 to 50 feet)
· be fully symmetrical with a single trunk and no brown needles
Urban Forestry Branch staff select the tree that best meets the criteria. It is removed at no cost and debris is cleaned up, including the removal of the stump.
Anyone interested in donated their tree should call 311 or e-mail 311@winnipeg.ca.
