A head-on crash involving an alleged impaired driver has claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman from Napinka, Manitoba.
RCMP were called out Friday at around 11 p.m. for a report of an impaired driver in Notre Dame. Police found the suspect vehicle at a gas station in St. Claude and attempted to pull it over.
A short-lived chase ensued when RCMP stood down due to excessive speeds.
The vehicle was then involved in a head-on crash about 3 km east of St. Claude on Highway 2 in the RM of Gray.
The 20-year-old woman of the other vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 27-year-old male suspect from Winnipeg was taken to hospital by STARS air ambulance in critical condition.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified.
No charges have yet been laid against the driver.
Police continue to investigate.
