Man Dies from Assault in Winnipeg Hotel, Left Undiscovered for Two Days

Winnipeg Police CrestA 56-year-old man who was assaulted and later died in a Winnipeg hotel room wasn’t discovered for two days.

Police say the victim was in the 100 block of Higgins Avenue last Sunday when he was involved in an altercation with another man.

Walter Lavasseur died of his injuries and wasn’t found until Tuesday.

Police arrested a suspect at the scene and originally charged him with aggravated assault.

Charges against James Michael Jarrow, 45, of Winnipeg have since been upgraded to second-degree murder after an autopsy was completed.

Jarrow remains in custody.
