For the first time in the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce’s 143-year history, a gender-balance board of directors will be elected.

The new board will be sworn in today and includes 12 women and 12 men from the business community, chaired by Priti Mehta-Shah, managing partner at 49-97 Capital Partners.

“Diversity at the board level is important to sustaining performance and relevance of the chamber as the landscape of the workforce changes,” said Mehta-Shah.

“Over the past three decades, women’s participation in the Canadian workforce has more than doubled, to approximately 47 per cent. I am very proud of the fact that the chamber has assembled its first gender balanced board.”

Mehta-Shah is the Chamber’s 122nd chair of the board of directors.

The Chamber’s annual general meeting will follow at the Radisson Winnipeg with greetings from Mayor Brian Bowman.
