Winnipeg mascots will go toe-to-toe today in a fun scavenger hunt in support of the Canadian Red Cross.
Four teams will compete in the emergency preparedness event, including the Winnipeg Police Service (Copper), the Winnipeg Goldeyes (Goldie), Winnipeg Blue Bombers (Buzz and Boomer) and the Red Cross itself.
The teams will race around the Polo Park Walmart collecting items to complete a ready-to-go disaster preparedness kit. The contest will demonstrate the importance of having a kit ready before a disaster strikes and what items are important to have in case of an emergency.
The event ties in with the Red Cross’ partnership with Walmart to match all funds donated during October up to $2,000 per store. The goal for this year’s campaign is $81,000 province-wide. The campaign wraps up on Friday.
The scavenger hunt begins at 11 a.m. at 1001 Empress Street.
