The holiday season will see an additional 112 taxicabs on Winnipeg streets — an increase from 95 last year.

The Manitoba Taxicab Board approved the business licences to meet rider demand, including for the upcoming Grey Cup Festival in November.

“This supports the new Accessibility for Manitobans Act and the feedback the Taxicab Board has received from organizations for people with disabilities who state that more accessible vehicles are required to meet their needs,” the board said in a release.

Ten of the tabs will be accessible for passengers with disabilities.

Unicity received 54 of the licences, while Duffy’s will operated 41. Independent taxis and drivers, including accessible vehicles, will operate 17.

The additional cabs will operate between November 2 and March 31, 2016.
