A campaign to raise $6 million by Economic Development Winnipeg launched on Thursday to cover operating expenses for the 2016 to 2020 term.
YES! Winnipeg is undertaking Campaign 2020, aiming to bring 4,500 jobs to the city over the next five years.
“YES! Winnipeg will continue to remain laser-focused on its core mandate to serve as a proactive business development team for our city,” said YES! Winnipeg leader Vince Barletta.
“I’m especially pleased that support for a second five-year mission has already proven tremendous, with funding commitments having already been received from government and private-sector entities totalling half of our $6 million investment target.”
The Manitoba government is contributing $675,000 towards the campaign. If YES! Winnipeg maintains private-sector support of $800,000 annually, the province will contribute an additional $135,000 over the next five years.
YES! Winnipeg launched in 2008 to stimulate business growth in the city. So far it has assisted more than 60 clients in expanding operations in Winnipeg.
Barletta says those clients are projected to create more than 3,500 jobs and generate $480 million in investment.
