Stony Mountain Institution north of Winnipeg is in lockdown as staff conduct a search.
The medium and maximum security units were placed into lockdown at around 7 a.m. Thursday.
“The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so,” a news release said.
All visits to the jail have been suspended until the search has been completed.
