Winnipeg is the only Canadian city singled out by National Geographic as one of the top destinations to visit in 2016.

“Whether it’s Botswana’s Great Plains or snow-covered Greenland, these 20 go-now destinations will get you packing,” the publication says.

The article points out how Winnipeg was thrust onto the international radar when the Canadian Museum for Human Rights opened in 2014, and again this past summer for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Martina Hutchison, an assistant at the Manitoba Museum, is quoted in the article as saying: “I love the Peg, but I hate to brag too much about it because I don’t want it to get any bigger.”

Mentioned is the city’s Exchange District, a handy list of things to do, where to stay, what to eat and drink, and the best time of year to go (they suggest June through September).
