Thompson RCMP are investigating after a police officer shot and killed a man in northern Manitoba early Saturday.
Police say the officer attempted to pull over an erratic driver at around 2 a.m. A brief pursuit began, but the vehicle eventually stopped. As the officer approached, the vehicle accelerated and struck him.
Police say the officer took out his gun and fired at the suspect, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A woman in the passenger seat was also injured during the incident. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The officer was treated in for hospital minor injuries and has since been released.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) was notified and will be investigating.
