With Black Friday here and consumer spending ramping up into high gear for the busy holiday season, the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce has launched a social media campaign to encourage spending at local businesses.
The #UnwrapWPG campaign calls on Winnipeg’s shops, stores and boutiques to tell their stories. The 59 participating businesses in the campaign range in products and services from specialty foods, clothing, art galleries, and shoes, to electronics, entertainment, health spas, and auto repairs.
“When you hear the personal stories about the family-run businesses in our community, you know that the decision to shop local matters,” said Chamber president and CEO Dave Angus.
“These store owners are our neighbours — they hire locally, live locally, and give locally.”
Each time the hashtag #UnwrapWPG is used on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, people will be entered to win one of seven local shopping sprees at participating retail businesses, including a grand prize spree of $1,500. Campaign sponsor Assiniboine Credit Union will also make a $0.50 donation to Local Investment Toward Employment (LITE), up to a maximum donation of $1,000.
