The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is opening a breast milk donation site to help premature and sick babies.

The site will be located at the Birth Centre on St. Mary’s Road and accept registered donations for pasteurization at NorthernStar Mothers Milk Bank in Calgary.

Health officials say the human milk from donors will be used to help premature and sick babies in neonatal intensive care units in hospitals, and in the community, across Canada.

Women wishing to donate must first be screened prior to dropping off their donation, including having blood tests to see if they qualify.

Donations will begin being accepted on January 4, 2016. Interested mothers can contact the milk bank at (403) 475-6455 or NorthernStarmilkbank.ca.
