Winnipeg Police CrestWinnipeg police have charged a 20-year-old man after a robbery and joyride through city streets.

Police say the man entered a taxicab the evening of November 30 in the 300 block of Henderson Highway. The driver was robbed of cash and the suspect took off.

On Sunday night, police attempted to stop a blue Ford Tempo driven by the suspect in the area of Corydon Avenue and Lilac Street. The driver’s high rate of speeds prompted police to call in Air 1 for assistance in tracking the suspect.

Police say the man stopped in the area of Henderson Highway and Hoddinott Road, where he attempted to rob a woman of her Honda Civic. She managed to flee unharmed with her vehicle.

The man eventually stopped in the 5000 block of Henderson Highway when he lost control and drove into a ditch.

Jessie Michael Nagam of Winnipeg faces several charges, including resisting arrest, due to his combative behaviour once officers caught up with him.

He remains in custody.
