Manitoba Hydro is cutting power to several customers across Manitoba this afternoon and into this evening to clear ice and frost build-up on local distribution and transmission systems.
Customers in the San Clara, Shortdale, Grandview and Gilbert Plains areas can expect periodic outages, which began at 2 p.m.
Grandview customers will experience an approximate three-hour outage starting at 3 p.m. and lasting until approximately 6 p.m.
Customers in Minnedosa and the surrounding rural areas will experience periodic outages of varying durations starting at 3 p.m. and lasting until late this evening.
Hydro says if it ice and frost isn’t removed, it can cause lines, insulators, cross arms and other hardware to break, resulting in unplanned outages of longer duration.
The public is reminded not to touch a downed line on the ground, but instead call Manitoba Hydro’s emergency line at 1-888-MBHYDRO (1-888-624-9376).
