December 24, 2015 8:49 AM | News

West End BizAn annual Christmas Eve feast will feed hundreds today as many new immigrants settle their way into Canadian life.

The Sons of Italy, West End BIZ, X-Cues Billiards & Cafe and Sorrento’s on Ellice are hosting the traditional Italian-style holiday meal, complete with gifts and hampers.

“For a few hours we can make the holiday a reality for someone, especially the children,” said Gloria Cardwell-Hoeppner, executive director of the West End BIZ.

“On a day they might otherwise feel alone, they are part of a family celebration… I can’t imagine doing anything else on Christmas Eve.”

Other guests include international students not able to make it home for the holidays, and local families and individuals who are alone. About 200 children are also expected to attend.

All attendees pre-registered to attend, with most referred by service agencies and organizations.

The meal will be held at X-Cues at 551 Sargent Avenue, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
