Woman Dies, Another Injured in William Avenue Stabbing

Winnipeg Police CrestWINNIPEG — A woman who was stabbed Tuesday evening is the city’s first homicide victim of 2016.

Cynthia Marie French, 35, of Winnipeg was one of two women stabbed in the 500 block of William Avenue at around 6 p.m. The second victim has been upgraded to stable condition.

Police say the victims had come home earlier in the day to find the suspect in the deceased’s bedroom. She was forcefully removed from the home, but later returned within an hour with her sister. Police say both women then attacked the victims with a knife.

Candice Nora Nepinak, 31, and Vanessa Louise Nepinak, 35, of Winnipeg have been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.

Both women remain in custody.
