WINNIPEG — The True North Square project adjacent to MTS Centre will receive a combined $17.6 million from the city and province through tax increment financing.

The major downtown development is the second phase of the Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District, including a skating rink, public stage, public seating and green space stretched over two acres.

“True North Square is an ambitious and visionary mixed-use development in the heart of Winnipeg’s Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District,” said Mark Chipman, executive chairman of True North Sports and Entertainment.

“Its plazas and parks aim to create an iconic central destination in the SHED while creating a dynamic sequence of connected public spaces that seamlessly unite the MTS Centre with the RBC Convention Centre.”

The $400-million development will also include retail, office and residential spaces, as well as a hotel. Space will also cater to outdoor concerts, game day parties, a casual ice rink, Christmas village, ice bar, food truck festival, two curling lanes, outdoor movies, and sand volleyball.

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2018.
