Police Watchdog Called in After Man Injured During Arrest

Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU)Winnipeg police have called in the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba after a man was arrested on January 23 and suffered injuries in the process.

Police were called to the 500 block of Ross Avenue and took a man into custody, where he was then taken to the Health Sciences Centre due to serious injuries. Police had to use force during the arrest to restrain the suspect.

Police notified the IIU the following day and investigators immediately began an investigation.

No further details have been made available.

The IIU investigates all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, whether occurring on or off duty.
