The Wild Winter Canoe Race is February 15, 2016 at The Forks. (HANDOUT)
The first ever Wild Winter Canoe Race is testing the (frozen) waters later this month at The Forks.
Community Living Winnipeg is holding the inaugural event, which will trial a demonstration for next year’s fundraiser.
Twelve teams will take part in a friendly competition on a course of groomed snow tracks located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers. The racecourse will consist of a straight, snow-packed 200-meter course of four lanes.
There’s no paddling required for these canoes, only leg strength to propel your team.
The top four teams will challenge each other for the win. The team who completes the course in the fastest time wins the race, bragging rights and a Via Rail round-trip to Churchill.
The Wild Winter Canoe Race is set for Louis Riel Day, February 15, from 1-3 p.m. To register, visit WildWinterCanoeRace.com.
