A Winnipeg man is in police custody after allegedly dragging a police officer as part of a gas and dash.
Police say the suspect was reported to be impaired when he left a gas station without paying for fuel in Gladstone, Manitoba on Friday at around 11 a.m.
The driver took off in a white SUV heading westbound on Highway 16 towards Neepawa. Police tried to intercept the suspect, but a cruiser was struck by the runaway vehicle in the process.
An officer who attempted to arrest the man was dragged by the vehicle and fired his gun in an effort to stop him. The suspect wasn’t injured and the officer only suffered minor injuries while freeing himself.
Police later caught up with the man and placed him into custody. It was found the vehicle he was driving was stolen.
Jesse E. Young, 27, faces numerous charges and remains in custody pending a court appearance in Brandon on Monday.
