Which way to the beach?

Powerlifters of all physiques will be polishing up their “guns” this weekend for the first powerlifting competition of 2016 at Brickhouse Gym.

The meet on Saturday is sanctioned by the Manitoba Powerlifting Association and offers powerlifters in Manitoba a platform to compete in a best-of-three lifts format, scored on their bench press, back squat, and deadlift.

“We’re excited to host the first meet this year, but more importantly to showcase the incredible talent of our Manitoban athletes, many of whom are competing at the novice level for the very first time,” said Paul Taylor, co-owner of Brickhouse Gym.

“Even though powerlifting is still considered a fairly young sport, it’s great to see the momentum steadily growing over the last few years. The level of interest we’re seeing from both male and female athletes of all ages is pretty incredible.”

The event is open to public spectators at the gym, located at 104 King Edward Street E. Weigh-ins begin at 9 a.m. with the competition starting at 11 a.m.
