Transit Driver Charged After Alleged Assault on Passenger

Winnipeg Police CrestA 51-year-old Winnipeg Transit driver has been charged with assault after allegedly striking a teenage girl.

Police were called to the area of Sargent Avenue and Valour Road just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday for a report of a transit driver being assaulted.

Officers discovered a verbal argument had occurred between the woman driver and a 17-year-old female passenger. It escalated to where the driver allegedly hit the girl, with the passenger striking back in self-defence.

The driver has been charged with public mischief and assault. She was released on a promise to appear.
