When you’re celebrating Manitoba’s founding father on Monday, visitors to The Forks can crank some homegrown tunes while enjoying their day off.

Manitoba Music has launched an all-local streaming playlist for Louis Riel Day, where revellers can connect to the site-wide WiFi and steam an hour of made-in-Manitoba music while skating on the Red River Mutual Trail or playing in Arctic Glacier Winter Park.

“There is nothing better than going for a skate on the long weekend, and now you have a great local soundtrack to go with it,” said Paul Jordan, CEO of The Forks Renewal Corporation. “Winter and music are two things that Manitoba is known for and now you can enjoy both together.”

The Manitoba Music On Ice playlist spans the genres, featuring local luminaries like The Weakerthans, Royal Canoe, The Lytics, Chic Gamine, and JP Hoe, along with emerging acts Basic Nature, Courier News, Finn, Justin Lacroix, Rayannah, Sc Mira, Slow Leaves, Sweet Alibi, Vikings, William Prince, and Yes We Mystic.
