Man Stabbed During Grocery Store Robbery

Winnipeg Police CrestA man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed while struggling with a suspect who robbed a grocery store in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue Thursday morning.

The suspect was armed with a knife when he entered the store at around 9:30 a.m. and demanded cash and cigarettes. Before he could get away, an employee and another man attempted to hold the suspect for police. During the struggle, one man was stabbed and sent to hospital in critical condition. He was since upgraded to stable.

An 18-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguise with intent and assault.

He remains in custody.
