Man, 71, Killed After Crash with Stolen Car on McPhillips

Winnipeg Police CrestA stolen vehicle driven by an alleged drunk driver killed a 71-year-old man early Saturday morning on McPhillips Street.

The two-vehicle crash happened at around 1:30 a.m. in the area of McPhillips and Jarvis Avenue.

Police say a Honda Civic had been stolen in the area of Sherbrook Street and Ross Avenue about 20 minutes earlier by an unknown woman. It was travelling south on McPhillips when it sideswiped a car. The man driving the other vehicle was not injured.

It then hit a Buick Regal that was eastbound on Jarvis, attempting to turn north onto McPhillips.

The driver of the Buick was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died. The 22-year-old woman driving the car was also listed in critical condition.

Police say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
