Manitoba’s Liberal Party would transition the province into full-day kindergarten, should they form the next government.

Leader Rana Bokhari says half-day kindergarten is putting a strain on parents and the childcare system.

“We are falling behind the rest of the world and need to start to turn that around and there is no better place to start than at the beginning,” Bokhari said.

“We believe that healthy interaction and early learning are the keys to a healthy and prosperous society and when our children begin early they are getting a head start.”

Bokhari’s plan would cost taxpayers $50 million annually for staffing.

The election is April 19.
