Staff at the Winnipeg Humane Society have been busy tending to three badly-injured cats who arrived in their care recently.

The animal shelter says in the last three weeks, cats with gap wounds, skin ripped away and burned, and a variety of broken limbs have come into their care.

Stix (left) arrived with an extensive section of the skin torn off her tail and burns on the hind legs. Clinic staff needed to remove her tail. Another cat was found freezing in a tree, with scabs on her toes and is in need of part of her tail to be removed due to frostbite. Another cat was discovered with a foot injury and had one of his toes amputated.

The WHS receives about 6,000 cats each year.

An upcoming telethon/radiothon this weekend will help raise money to care for the animals in need at the shelter.

The 1001 Donations events is Sunday, March 20 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will air on Shaw TV, QX 104.1, 94.3 The Drive, and online.
