Manitoba’s Liberals say they would reduce the number in the care of Child and Family Services.

Leader Rana Bokhari said Wednesday the apprehension of children from a household should be a last resort, not the first.

“We are committed to implementing the recommendations of the Hughes report and we will work as a team to build a better system. I will be leaning on those who are deeply involved in the system to help guide policy in this area,” Bokhari said.

The Liberals would also give children the option to remain in care until age 25.

Bokhari said the government needs to better consult and communicate with families, and more resources need to go into prevention over apprehension.
