A 58-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged after RCMP say he impersonated an active police officer online.
Police began their investigation after receiving multiple complaints from across North America about a supposed Manitoba officer inappropriately using social media and other online forums.
Thomas Hanaway was arrested on Wednesday and appeared in Winnipeg court earlier today.
He has been charged with three counts of impersonating an officer, and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
RCMP say police officers will never use their personal social media accounts to conduct any police investigations.
