Manitoba’s Liberal Party wants to take a proactive approach to increase organ donorship.

Leader Rana Bokhari says, if elected, Manitobans would be asked when renewing their driver’s licence whether they would like to become an organ donor or not.

“It is a tragedy when someone who desperately needs an organ doesn’t get one in time because someone forgot to fill out an organ donor card or head to a website of their own volition,” Bokhari said.

She added those who do not wish to donate organs will continue to have their wishes respected.

Manitobans can also visit signupforlife.ca to add their name as a donor.

The provincial election is April 19.
