Winnipeg’s James Richardson International Airport has hit another milestone for being green.

The airport has received level one mapping certification under the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program.

“Winnipeg Airports Authority is committed to monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and developing innovative reduction strategies to continue on our journey towards becoming a carbon neutral facility,” said Barry Rempel, president and CEO of WAA.

WAA completed a greenhouse gas emissions inventory in 2014 to receive the accreditation. The scope of the inventory included all emission sources where WAA has direct ownership and control, including emissions from fuel, electricity and natural gas consumed in its generators, boilers, chillers, fleet vehicles and buildings.

The accreditation is an institutionally-endorsed, global carbon management certification program for airports.
