Manitoba Wildfire Forces Partial Whiteshell Evacuation

May 8, 2016 11:53 AM | News

Easterly winds are expected to push a wildfire near the Manitoba-Ontario further east today.

McDougall’s Landing and east shore remote cabins of West Hawk Lake were evacuated on Saturday night as a precaution.

The province says the south Whiteshell emergency plan is being activated and attempts are being made to install sprinkler kits on structures.

There is no access to McDougall’s Landing at West Hawk Lake off PR 312 as smoke and fire forced its closure between PTH 44 and Ingolf, Ontario past the West Hawk Lake boat launch. Whiteshell Provincial Park roads remain open.

Travellers are asked to stay away from the fire zone. For additional information on restrictions in eastern Manitoba, contact the eastern region office at (204) 345-1444.

To report a wildfire, call 911 or the T.I.P. line at 1-800-782-0076.
