WINNIPEG — Gene Muller has been named the new director of athletics and recreation for the University of Manitoba.
Muller, 49, takes over from longtime athletic director Coleen Dufresne, who is retiring.
“We are fortunate to have a great team of coaches, administrators, directors and coordinators,” Muller said in a statement. “They fuel my optimism for the future of Athletics and Recreation at the University of Manitoba.
Muller currently serves as the director of the University of Manitoba’s Active Living Centre since October 2014, and was also named 2001 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) women’s field hockey coach of the year as head coach of the Bison women’s field hockey squad.
Muller’s new role will have him overseeing Bison Sports, Recreation Services and Mini U programs at the University of Manitoba.
His new position is effective September 1, 2016.
